I'm “Surfer Joe,” and I live near Jackson, Michigan. I was a DJ at a college radio station back in the late 70’s, and have been a record collector for many years. I love classic rock ‘n’ roll, and especially surf and hot rod music. I played my first gig as a “Hot Rod DJ” at Art 634 in Jackson:
I have over 20 hours of car songs recorded in high-quality (192 kbps) mp3 format on my hard drive, and use a PowerMac G4 running Audion (a software program similar to iTunes) to play them. I can also set up a second G4 to show hot rod videos. I always bring backup equipment in the unlikely event that any part of my professional sound system fails.

DJ’s at most car shows typically play familiar 50’s and 60’s rock ‘n’ roll oldies. My show at Art 634 was unique because I played ONLY songs about cars. I believe that the key to success is to have plenty of material, and to mix styles from different eras to please the widest age range. Most of these songs are from the golden age of car songs (50’s and 60’s), but I also have quite a few tunes from the 70’s and 80’s. Most of the newer recordings I have (i.e., recorded in the past 20 years or so) are from current bands that play retro style (e.g., the Boss Martians, the Volcanos, and the Untamed Youth).
Please send me an email (joe@surferjoeproductions.com) for more information. I look forward to playing at your upcoming Michigan auto event!
Sincerely, “Surfer Joe”
